Travelling to bangkok on the 2nd of May 2010. Would it be safe and okay to travel?

To bangkok residents, do you think it'll be safe to travel to bangkok around that time? Has things cooled down? Will be staying along banglamphu street. Thanks!! You're opinions and observations will really help us decide whether to push through or not. It'll be my 1st time there. Thanks!
