Male and female cats can be territorial, but there is always a way to gently introduce a new kitty to your old one. You're starting out well by keeping them separated at first. The best thing to do is to feed them at the same time, setting the food dishes on opposite sides of the door. This way they can smell each other and get used to the idea of each other. Another thing that might work is, after the food thing, put the new kitty in a travel box and set it out in another room of the house where your other cat can come up and check it out. Being that your older cat is an outside cat, this might take some tension off of whos boss, being that her territory will be mostly outdoors. Hope this helps.
